Voices for the West—A Lasting Legacy: Honoring Laird Lucas and the Fight for a Just West
May 14, 2026
In January 2003, Laird Lucas and four fellow environmental lawyers set out to build a new kind of conservation law firm—one grounded in courage, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to the landscapes and communities of the American West. This was the founding of Advocates for the West. Over the next 23 years, Laird helped grow this intrepid vision into a nationally respected force for conservation, leading landmark efforts to protect imperiled species, safeguard special places, and defend public lands, water, fish, and wildlife across more than a dozen western states.
Join us on Thursday, May 14 at 5 pm Pacific Time/6 pm Mountain as we celebrate Laird and the extraordinary legacy of leadership he leaves behind as he prepares to retire as Executive Director of Advocates for the West. We’ll take a trip down memory lane, share stories from the people and places touched by his work, and honor the dedication and grit that shaped more than two decades of impact. We hope you’ll join us in thanking Laird for all he has given to this organization—and to the West he has worked so tirelessly to protect.
