About the Campaign

Idaho’s Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness is the second largest contiguous wilderness area in the lower 48. Its rugged and varied landscape encompasses and protects the famed Middle Fork of the Salmon River. From rocky alpine peaks to lush forest meadows and deep river canyons, this remote wilderness provides refuge to grey wolves, salmon and steelhead, bighorn sheep, and other at-risk native species.

Even though it is a federally designated wilderness area, the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness faces numerous threats. Advocates for the West has successfully halted destructive mining exploration, stopped invasive helicopter wolf collaring plans, protected sensitive aquatic habitats, and more. But these threats and others will continue to return—and we need to be ready for future legal battles.
