Case Information:

December 14, 2018 – BPA granted our motion to intervene, which will give us a real opportunity to dig into the true cost of the Lower Snake River dams.

December 11, 2018 – Advocates for the West filed a petition to intervene with the Bonneville Power Administration’s (BPA) Joint Power and Transmission Rate Proceeding for the 2020-2021 Proposed Power and Transmission Rate Adjustments. We filed on behalf of Idaho Conservation League, Idaho Rivers United, and Columbia Riverkeeper.

Our petition seeks full disclosure of costs associated with the Lower Snake River dams apart from other BPA hydropower operations, and what portion of BPA’s proposed rates cover those costs. This information is key in determining the true costs, and cost-effectiveness, of the Lower Snake River dams.

Advocates for the West and our clients hope to use the information gained to advocate for salmon and steelhead recovery, and a modern, cost-effective regional power system that supports wild fish recovery.
