Salmon and Steelhead at the Crossroads: U.S. Congressman Simpson’s Proposal Explained

This month, Advocates for the West is teaming up with Idaho Conservation League Executive Director Justin Hayes to explain Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson’s bold proposal to save salmon and steelhead, explore how the proposal might affect our legal work, and answer your questions. Advocates for the West Executive Director Laird Lucas will facilitate this illuminating conversation.

Columbia Basin salmon and steelhead are on the verge of extinction. The rivers and streams of our region used to teem with these iconic fish. Decades of threats including dams, warming water temperatures, industry, and other pressures have brought them to the brink. Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has put forward a bold and massive proposal to save salmon and steelhead, while also endeavoring to keep diverse stakeholders whole and move our region into a future where fish and humans can coexist.

Idaho Conservation League and Advocates for the West have worked together for decades to protect salmon and steelhead, and their migratory habitat. We hope you will join us for this important and informative discussion. Spread the word and bring your questions!
