April Social Distancing Hour – An Online Discussion of Our Work!

April 28, 2021

This Session’s Topic: Forests, Logging, Climate, and Fire in Idaho’s Clearwater Country

This month, Advocates for the West is teaming up with our client and partner, Friends of the Clearwater, for an in-depth discussion of the current challenges facing Clearwater Country.

Advocates for the West has a long history of fighting to protect the biodiversity of the Clearwater from logging, Highway 12 “megaloads,” and suction dredge mining. Today, this unique region of North Central Idaho faces a huge uptick in logging, threatening its old growth forests, fish, and wildlife. In the era of climate change, protecting wild forests is more important than ever. But the Forest Service is using climate change as an excuse to promote industrial-scale logging throughout the Clearwater. The presentation will dig into past and current efforts to protect the area, confront the myth that we need to log forests to save them, and introduce our new case challenging two massive timber sales!
